DOI Display Guidelines

Page history last edited by sk60@rice.edu 3 years, 6 months ago

As a DataCite member, Fondren Library encourages those at Rice who have assigned DOIs to scholarship to follow DataCite's DOI Display Guidelines. This helps to make DOIs easy to recognize and use--for both users and machines. Fondren's Digital Scholarship Services can assist with any DOI display or citation issues: cds@rice.edu

Use the checklist below to ensure that the DOIs created can be used and cited:

  1. DOIs should always be displayed as a complete URL. For example: https://doi.org/10.7939/R3QZ22K64
    1. use the secure HTTPS rather than HTTP
  2. DOIs should be displayed in the full URL when bibliographic information about content is displayed. Display DOIs anywhere users are directed to a permanent, stable, or persistent link to the content, including:
    1. abstracts
    2. tables of contents
    3. full-text HTML and PDF articles, and other scholarly documents
    4. citation downloads to reference management systems
    5. metadata feeds to third parties
    6. “How to Cite This” instructions
    7. social media links
