Indus start up and shut down

Turning scanner on/off

Before turning scanner on, check that the glass plate is clean and nothing is on top.

There are 5 power switches for the Indus scanner. The Revolta power supply (black box) transformer which sits on the floor, should remain on at all times.

The green button on the back of the scanner should remain on at all times.

To power on/off Indus scanner

Startup

  1. Flip orange switch (located on underframe left front side of scanner) ON.

  2. Press and release silver metallic switch located on scanner slide. Wait for lights and fan to switch on.

  3. Check Control panel switches (only turn top switch on)

  4. Scanner must warm up for 30 mins. before opening Proview software

  5. Open Proview software. Begin scanning.

Scanning Steps

Shutdown

  1. Make sure white board is stored on the book cradles.

  2. Make sure book cradles are raised all way to glass. This is very important to ease pressure on springs.

  3. Press and quickly release the silver metallic switch located on scanner slide briefly and wait for 10-15 seconds. Make certain the scanner lamp and fan are off before shutting off any other switches.
  4. Flip orange switch (located on underframe left front side of scanner) OFF.
    1. If you are planning to return to scanning within a short period of time (i.e. later in the day, keep orange switch turned on, but follow steps 1-3 above.)

N.B.: Avoid a "hard shutdown" or pressing and holding down the silver metallic button until lights and fan turn off.  This forced shutdown should only be used in an emergency shutdown.

Soft shut down of Indus scanner

The soft shutdown is done by pushing the silver button in only briefly (a second or less) and letting the scanner take the time it needs to gather info and shut down - the lamps will go out in about 20 or 30 seconds.

This is the recommended practice (as of 2016) per Indus support. With a soft shutdown, log information is retained and can be analyzed by Indus support. Hard Shut downs delete this information.
